Design/Build
KTI provided materials testing and Special Inspection including drilled piers, foundations, reinforcing steel, structural concrete, structural steel, structural welding, masonry and soil for the project, which consisted of 243,000 sq. ft., 13-story, 64unit condominiums; 36,000 sq. ft. three-story townhomes and three-level 140car underground cast-in-place garage near the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.
As part of the design team for this design-built project, KTI provided drilling, laboratory testing, geotechnical engineering services and construction consultation services for an Army Reserve facility. A significant component of this project involved the design building foundations that spanned varying depths of highly compressible clay. As a result of the KTI evaluation, a foundation treatment approach that did not depend on the use of a deep foundation system was developed. This approach consisted of a preloading fill and “wick drains” that ultimately provided a cost saving approach to the structure foundations.
KTI is currently providing a Resident Inspector for the Regional Correctional Facility at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Materials testing and Inspection per the USACE include compaction testing of soil, testing of concrete, testing of asphalt, inspection of structural steel erection, precast concrete erection, and Non-Destructive Testing including magnetic particle testing of welding.
KTI provided materials testing for the replacement and renovation of military family residences at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Missouri. Materials testing included compaction testing of soil, testing of concrete, testing of asphalt and testing of aggregate.
Design/Build
The construction industry has rapidly evolved over the past few decades, and one of the biggest changes has been the emergence of the Design/Build project. Design/Build is when the design and construction aspects of a single project are contracted for with a single entity. That entity can be a General Contractor, Architect or Engineer. KTI has been involved with a variety of design/build projects, and has developed relationships with many of the Architecture, Engineering, and General contractors in the Greater Kansas City area.
